Automation is the use of systems to reduce the need for human intervention, this brings an obvious advantage of lower labour costs but also eliminates human errors, faster throughput and improved quality. Automation is all around us from simple traffic light system to more complex robots and everything in between. If you carry out a repetitive task the chances are that it can be automated.

Control is very similar to Automation but generally requires an input from the user ie a button pushed to start the process.

PLC’s (Programmable Logic Controllers) are the brains of industry which allow us to automate and control repetitive tasks.  Sophisticated PLC’s can control a whole factories processing procedures or one small operation of a standalone piece of equipment. IES offer a complete solution from understanding the task to be automated or controlled, plc choice, programming and testing. We can also offer maintenance and fault finding for a wide range of PLC manufacturers. IES also offer HMI services to allow interaction between the user and PLC’s.

Drives are used where motors need to be precisely controlled for speed which can either be maintained and varied depending on what stage in the process is happening at the time. IES can advise on drive selection and install, programme the necessary parameters and test to customers’ requirements.

At our head office located in central Kent, we have a state of the art workshop where we can carry out a vast and varied amount of in house repairs.

We also offer control panel builds from start to finish including design, Build, Install and commission of the system all carried out by our experienced engineers on site. Program design and build is available for any automated system required from our in house program building technicians.

We have some highly trained and skilled automation engineers at IES, recently carrying out routine maintenance and large project work for a large online supermarket.

These tasks included maintenance on robot picking bots and automated picking stations.
